UK Child Car Seat Regulations: Ensuring Safety for Young Passengers
Mandatory Use Until Age 12 or 135cm
Children must use an appropriate child car seat until they reach 12 years old or 135 centimeters in height, whichever comes first.
Transition to Seat Belts
Once a child surpasses 12 years of age or 135cm in height, they are required to wear a seat belt.

Never place a rear-facing child seat in a front passenger seat equipped with an active airbag. Deactivate the airbag first.
ISOFIX Anchor Points
Child seats can be secured using ISOFIX anchor points or a seat belt with a diagonal strap, unless the seat is specifically designed for a lap belt.
Unexpected Journeys
- Children aged 3 or older can use an adult seat belt in the rear seat.– Children under 3 cannot travel without a suitable child seat, except in taxis as noted above.
