Tangier — On Saturday, Morocco and Ukraine agreed to enhance trade by improving road transport connections. Despite the vast distance between them, the two nations reached this accord in Istanbul.

At the World Forum on Transport Connectivity, Morocco and Ukraine signed a new partnership to strengthen economic ties through enhanced road transport links. Morocco’s Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh and Ukraine’s Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach sealed the agreement after bilateral discussions.

The agreement creates new opportunities for businesses in both countries, enabling Ukrainian freight companies to directly access Moroccan markets.

Through the agreement, Moroccan transport companies can now route shipments through Europe to access Ukraine.

The cooperation agreement establishes new trade corridors, bypassing traditional routes between Morocco and Ukraine.

“This is just the start,” Morocco’s Transport and Logistics Minister Abdessamad Kayouh told MAP, adding, “our teams are already exploring ways to expand this cooperation into other areas.”

For Ukraine, the deal’s timing is critical, as the country focuses on rebuilding its transport and logistics networks, making international partnerships vital for economic recovery.

Ukraine’s Deputy Minister Serhiy Derkach highlighted that the new transport routes will boost Ukraine’s economy by enabling smoother commercial exchanges.

“This cooperation is equally beneficial for both nations,” Derkach stated, expressing gratitude for Morocco’s commitment to the partnership.

The agreement is a key outcome of Morocco’s active engagement at the three-day World Forum on Transport Connectivity in Istanbul, concluding on Sunday.

Morocco was represented by a high-level delegation, including Ambassador Mohamed Ali Lazrak and senior transport sector officials.

The World Forum on Transport Connectivity gathers government ministers, representatives from international organizations, financial institution leaders, and private sector experts.

Hosted by Türkiye’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure with World Bank support, the event focuses on developing and enhancing international transport networks.
