JFK Expands Partnership with Copenhagen Optimization for Terminal Upgrades

New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) has announced an expanded partnership with Copenhagen Optimization to upgrade its Airport Operations System (AOS) at Terminal 4.

Originally launched in 2018, the collaboration focuses on enhancing operational efficiency through the integration of advanced system modules.

As part of the latest phase, JFK will implement a comprehensive solution that merges Resource Management Software (RMS) with an Airport Operating Database (AODB), developed in collaboration with UK-based tech firm Azinq.

Azinq’s Airport Hive is a modular, cloud-based software suite developed to replace traditional Airport Operational Database (AODB) systems, providing advanced tools for managing a wide range of airport operations.

JFKIAT, the operator of Terminal 4 at JFK Airport, has already deployed several solutions from Copenhagen Optimization, including Better Check-in, Better Forecast, and Better Security. In recent years, the system was further enhanced with the addition of Better Baggage and Better Virtual Queueing in 2022, followed by Better Border in 2023.

Azinq CEO Chris Taylor stated, “We’re excited to collaborate with Copenhagen Optimization to deliver an AODB and billing system replacement for JFKIAT through our Airport Hive suite—a fully cloud-based platform designed to drive airport innovation.”

In addition, JFKIAT will deploy the Better Stand and Gate solution, aimed at streamlining terminal resource management. This includes automated stand and gate allocation, seasonal capacity planning, and alignment with airline preferences.

This initiative is part of JFK Terminal 4’s ongoing $1.5 billion redevelopment project, which focuses on integrating advanced technologies such as self-service kiosks and digital signage to improve passenger experiences and optimize terminal operations.

Kasper Hounsgaard, co-CEO and founder of Copenhagen Optimization, commented: “The future of airport IT lies in integrated solutions. At JFK T4, we’ve introduced a more modern and efficient approach to how systems operate and interconnect.

“Our ‘best in breed’ strategy ensures airports collaborate with specialized providers who bring deep expertise to their respective domains, rather than relying on generalized solutions.

Last month, JFK Millennium Partners partnered with K2 Security Screening Group to introduce a cutting-edge security checkpoint at JFK Airport’s upcoming Terminal 6, which is currently under construction.
