Noida International Airport’s Opening May Be Delayed Again Due to This Reason; YIAPL to Face Rs 10 Lakh Daily Penalty

The Noida International Airport has missed its third deadline to commence domestic operations by May 15 due to yet another setback. Terminal construction remains incomplete, preventing the airport from becoming operational. The initial target for launching operations was September 2024.
Noida International Airport: Chief Secretary to Convene Review Meeting
According to a report by The Times of India, completing the remaining work within the next two months appears unlikely. While no new official deadline has been announced, Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh is expected to lead a detailed meeting with key stakeholders and submit a comprehensive report within 15 days.
On Tuesday, 29 April, the Chief Secretary visited the construction site in Jewar and held discussions with officials from Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), Tata Projects Limited, and Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL).
The report added that the Uttar Pradesh government has imposed a penalty on the concessionaire, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited (YIAPL), requiring it to pay ₹10 lakh per day starting from January for delays in the project.
The report stated that the runway and related airside infrastructure were approximately 90% complete, while the terminal was 80% finished, with roofing and interior work still in progress. As of March 10, 80% of the physical work at the airport had been completed, but the water and sewage plants were only 40% done. Although the ATC building was expected to be completed by March 31, the commissioning of CNS/ATM systems by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) was not projected until April 30, according to ToI.
The report revealed that officials informed the CM that the delay was primarily due to the non-issuance of the aerodrome licence by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and unfinished construction, which prevented operations from starting by April 30.
