U.S. International Airports Offer On-Arrival Enrollment for Global Entry Program
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is providing the option of “Enrollment upon Arrival” at numerous airports, including San Diego International Airport, for participation in its Global Entry program.
This program permits preapproved, low-risk travelers arriving on international flights to bypass CBP inspection queues.
Conditional approval for entry into the program requires only a valid passport, driver’s license, and a document demonstrating residency in the United States, such as a utility or credit card bill.
Following conditional approval, a subsequent interview is unnecessary. The traveler can undergo the enrollment interview upon arrival on an international flight.
At airports like San Diego International, CBP officers will conduct interviews and collect travelers’ biometrics to finalize enrollment. This process can occur after clearing CBP processing.
Additionally, as a bonus, Global Entry members are entitled to participate in the TSA Pre✓™ expedited screening program, granting access to special lanes that eliminate the need for shoe removal and other requirements during TSA screening for both international and domestic flights.
The enrollment fee for the program is $100 and covers a five-year period.
Global Entry is a program offered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that allows pre-approved, low-risk travelers to receive expedited clearance upon arrival into the United States. Here’s how it works:
Eligibility and Application:
- Travelers interested in Global Entry must apply for the program. To be eligible, you need to undergo a rigorous background check and an in-person interview.
- The program is designed for low-risk travelers who want to expedite their entry process when arriving in the U.S.
Arrival Process:
- Upon landing at selected airports in the United States, Global Entry members can proceed to the Global Entry lanes.
- At these lanes, travelers use automatic kiosks equipped with processing technology. The kiosk captures a photo to verify their membership.
- After the photo is taken, on-screen instructions guide the member to a CBP officer who confirms successfull completion of the process.
Benefits:
- No waiting in regular processing lines.
- No paperwork required.
- Access to expedited entry.
- Available at major U.S. airports.
- Reduced wait times.
Enrollment Options:
If you couldn’t schedule an interview at an Enrollment Center before your international travel, you can complete your interview via Enrollment on Arrival upon reaching the United States.
An upcoming option is the Global Entry Mobile App, which will allow members to validate their arrival on their iOS or Android device before entering the Federal Inspection Services area.
Remember that while Global Entry aims to speed up the process, members may still be selected for further examination when entering the United States. Violations of the program’s terms and conditions can result in enforcement actions and termination of membership privileges. If you’re interested in applying, you can find more information on how to apply on the official CBP website.
